bio
My name is LaJenine. My friend Raymond calls me ‘Lala’ and I occasionally respond. I attended college in my hometown of Atlanta, where I first connected with my love of poetry and spoken word. I attended open mics and took to stages across the city delivering my own poignant response to issues plaguing the black community.
From 2003 to 2008, I served as the senior producer for “IN CONTACT,” a news and public affairs presentation of the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists, hosted by veteran journalist, Angela Robinson. During my stint as producer, I produced several noteworthy programs including, Stepping Out on Faith, Reemergence of Spoken Word and Gospel Music Today.
I enjoyed working in television, but what I really love most is writing about relationships, health and women’s issues. In the past few years, I have written for the Atlanta Voice, Atlanta Tribune, Rolling Out and Gainesville Times. My short stories and poetry have appeared on For Harriet and Gifted Women. I released by first book of poetry, Tip of my Tongue, in 2009.
I currently live in the Atlanta area with my son Keyon, a budding young artist/meteorologist/engineer. Yeah, he’s all that!
